The Armour Centre

As part of the UK Ministry of Defence's policy of out-sourcing contracts, TQ has supplied management, trainers and training support for the three trade training schools at The Armour Centre in Bovington and Lulworth over a period of 10 years.

The range of training delivered to military personnel has comprised:

  • Driving and Maintenance on tracked Armoured Fighting Vehicles
  • Signals (Communication and Information Systems)
  • Gunnery

TQ's instructors have been responsible for delivering a wide range of trade training courses to a variety of soldiers; from Phase 2 soldiers undergoing their initial Special-to-Arm training after completion of their basic training up to specialised, equipment-specific training for instructors.

From the Contract Start Date TQ placed special emphasis on the preservation of military ethos in its training delivery.

In addition to providing shop floor instruction, TQ has been instrumental in the development and use of driving and gunnery training simulators and, in partnership with Military Instructors developed Computer Based Training and multimedia products for use at the Armour Centre and in the Field Army. Innovative solutions have been provided to improve quality, cost effectiveness and efficiency of the training delivered.

As a part of its contract TQ conducted regular reviews and informal and formal instructor assessments to sustain long term course quality. To underpin this, TQ obtained ISO9001 certification for its operation at The Armour Centre (scope of registration:- The Delivery of Training for the Royal Armoured Corps and the provision of associated services).

As an extension to the contract TQ also delivered Train-the-Trainer conversion courses at The Armour Centre on the new range of Battle Group Thermal Imaging sights fitted to the CVR(T) and Warrior range of AFV's. This was undertaken on behalf of the MOD's Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) and delivered to the Field Army's Gunnery and D&M instructors. This contract has been delivered to the full satisfaction of the DPA and most importantly is allowing the Field Army to deploy on operations fully trained on the equipments in use in the theatre of operations.

Implementation of the whole project has been delivered on time to the complete satisfaction of the UK MOD.
